About the role
Sandvik Mining is seeking a motivated Technical Specialist - Surface Products to join our team, based on-site at our customer's operation in PNG. This role reports directly to the Sandvik Operations Manager PNG. In this role, you will work closely across multiple levels within the customer's organisation, with a strong focus on improving the performance, reliability, and integrity of Sandvik equipment. As the on-site Sandvik representative, you will play a key role in building strong relationships and ensuring a high level of customer service and technical support. You will work alongside the customer's Maintenance Management Team, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and supporting optimal equipment performance. Day to day, you will liaise with maintenance leadership, supervisors, planners, and technical teams, coordinating Sandvik parts, technical support, CSC repairs, and additional field service resources to meet maintenance requirements. This position operates on a FIFO roster of 3 weeks on / 2 weeks off, with 12-hour days while on site. All accommodation and meals are provided. You will; Proactively support the customer's maintenance team to maximise equipment availability, reliability and production performance across the fleet Deliver technical knowledge transfer to both Sandvik and customer personnel through hands-on and/or classroom-based training Troubleshoot technical and operational issues on Sandvik equipment, working with regional Technical Support to develop and implement product improvements Support the implementation of factory-driven equipment improvements and updates Conduct and support installation audits to ensure quality and compliance Provide structured feedback to the Operations Manager, Technical Support and Product Engineering teams to drive continuous equipment and operational improvements Liaise with the Sandvik Lae branch and logistics teams to coordinate off-site services, repairs and parts support Your profile Trade or tertiary qualifications in Heavy Equipment (mandatory) 5 years' post-trade experience in a relevant field Minimum 5 years' experience working with Sandvik Surface Equipment Strong understanding of equipment operation, maintenance and performance Proven ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics Highly proficient in diagnosing and adjusting electrical systems, software installation, and CAN Bus control systems Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) with strong report writing capability Ability to perform under pressure, respond quickly and deliver within timeframes Strong customer focus, with a drive to achieve targets and deliver outcomes Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently using initiative Experience working in remote and isolated environments Demonstrated commitment to safety and a strong safety mindset
