Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations. May be assigned to work in specialized section within the department. Qualifies as a General Medical Laboratory Scientists under CLIA-88 by any of the following: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science, or Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program, or Previously qualified or could have qualified as a generalist prior to 2/29/92 under 42 CFR 493.1427 (3/14/90) Verbal communication skills required to interact with other hospital personnel Writing skills and computer aptitude required to document test results and prepare reports of daily work Must be able to stand for long periods Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays. All medical laboratory scientists must meet the CLIA '88 requirements for the complexity level of work performed
