About the role
We're looking for a compassionate, detail‑oriented Patient Financial Counselor to support families with insurance coverage, financial assistance, billing questions, and payment options. You'll be a key resource for patients navigating the financial side of healthcare. Duties/ Responsibilities Accurately process charity adjustments based on Crayon Care enrollment status, which includes identifying the greater discount between the Amount Generally Billed (AGB) and the charity discount. Provides and accurately processes Crayon Care applications based on hospital charity policy and send appropriate correspondence letters to patients' families. Add insurance coverage and update the billing system to reflect the insurance status of the patient including pharmacy coverage when needed. Appropriately document information in the medical record consistent with departmental standards. Maintain working knowledge of state managed care plans and screen self-pay patients for possible eligibility on Medicaid and CHIP programs. Manage incoming inquiries regarding payments, charity care, insurance coverage benefits, billing disputes, prior authorizations, patient complaints, outpatient and surgical estimates, payment plans, and any other patient family request. Work with families by providing information on changing manage care plans as needed. Explain bills, itemized statements, and any other patient correspondence accordingly. Manages all necessary registration and claims corrections that may arise to ensure accurate billing. Accurately process estimates for services based on patients benefits or non-benefits. Assist with departmental coverage when needed. Supports hospital and departmental initiatives, change efforts, and improvement goals. Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patients' rights, guides in this area. Engages in strong communication, acts as team player in supporting mission and vision of organization, and abides by organization core values. Required Skills/Abilities High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred 2-5 years of experience working in hospital patient access and/or billing, physician office billing and collections, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills preferred Excellent communication and customer service abilities Bilingual preferred #P2
