Service Volunteer

About the role

As a Birmingham Young People's Service Volunteer, you'll play a key role in supporting individuals accessing Aquarius services. Working alongside experienced practitioners, you'll help deliver meaningful support through one-to-one engagement, group activities, and community-based work. This is a hands-on, people-focused role where you'll contribute to improving outcomes for young people and families affected by alcohol and drug use. You'll also act as an ambassador for Aquarius, helping to create a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgemental environment for everyone accessing the service. Key Duties Support one-to-one sessions alongside practitioners Assist with group work, activities, and events Help individuals attend appointments and access services Provide practical and emotional support where appropriate Act as a positive ambassador for Aquarius Build supportive, professional relationships with service users Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries at all times Work consistently to provide reliable support to individuals About You You're someone who is passionate about helping others and making a difference in people's lives. You bring a caring, non-judgemental approach and are able to build trust with a wide range of individuals. You will: Be reliable, consistent, and committed Have a friendly and approachable manner Be patient, understanding, and empathetic Be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds Be willing to learn, take direction, and use your own initiative Have a good level of self-awareness Be motivated to support people in a respectful and inclusive way Lived experience of substance misuse (personally or through family) is welcomed but not essential.
