Responsibilities

  • Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
  • Ten or more years of relevant IT technical experience;
  • 8+ years in Linux/Unix environments with 3+ years focused on Kubernetes using Red Hat OpenShift or other Kubernetes management platforms;
  • To aid in the successful completion of ongoing work, the candidate must also possess a strong working knowledge of the following:
  • Server Virtualization using OpenShift Virtualization;
  • VMware vSphere Cluster installation, configuration and management;
  • CI/CD pipelines and GitOps using JFrog Artifactory, or similar products;
  • Storage technologies, including, but not limited to Red Hat SDS, Ceph, NFS, iSCSI, and Fiber Channel;
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft Azure Cloud Service. Experience with hybrid/on-premise cloud services implementations is considered a strong asset;
  • Automation using Ansible, Powershell and Helm; and
  • Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Fast learner, proactive, responsive, self-driven, excellent organizational skills, takes ownership and demonstrates pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and can work autonomously; and
  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.

Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes Specialist - NETE Weir Canada Inc., Weir Marine Engineering LaSalle, QC (alternate possibility: Halifax, NS) Hybrid (Position 06-306) [version en français ci-bas - French version follows] Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering (WME) has an exciting and interesting opportunity for a Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes Specialist to design, develop, and test IT solutions in a hybrid and private cloud infrastructure for existing and future ships of the Royal Canadian Navy. WME operates the Naval Engineering Test Establishment for the Department of National Defence. The candidate will design and implement high-availability OpenShift clusters in hybrid cloud environments. This is a very technical position for a subject matter expert, involving investigation, analysis and hands-on work with systems in test environments to arrive at the architecture and detailed design for the systems. This is a very unique environment and work opportunity that in some cases could include conducting validation and pilot deployments onboard Royal Canadian Navy ships while in home port. There is no on-call requirement or user support associated with this role. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position based in either LaSalle, QC or Halifax, NS. Some work must be performed on-site, but most of the work can be performed either remotely or on-site, at your choice.
