About the role
Coordinate all aspects of the clinical safety program educational needs for the network-wide Sharps Safety and Safe Patient Movement and Handling programs. The Clinical Safety Education Specialist provides education and program oversight to the network-wide Sharps Safety and Safety Patient Movement & Handling programs to enhance workplace safety measures, advocate workplace safety and meet OSHA, Joint Commission and PA Department of Health regulatory standards. Job Duties Implements, manages and provides safety education programs, policies, procedures and safe work practices addressing: Safe patient lifting, movement & handling, sharps safety/needlestick prevention, ergonomics, Joint Commission compliance, clinical employee safety and OSHA bloodborne pathogen compliance. Collaborates with directors, patient care services, practice managers and department of education colleagues to assure clinical education needs are addressed proactively. Monitors employee injuries r/t patient handling injuries and movement and contaminated sharps exposures. Performs safety exposure evaluation and data analysis and recommends appropriate measures and follow up to reduce likelihood of future incidence recurrence. Develops, implements and delivers safety education and training programs for LVHN clinical staff; to include in person and e-learning platforms. Educates on safe patient movement and handling practices, proper body mechanics/ergonomics, safe use of patient handling equipment and sharps safety equipment and needlestick prevention measures. Oversight and management of the network-wide Safe Patient Movement & Handling and the network-wide Sharps Safety committee needs; organizing, delivering, managing and advocating for the committee goals and obligations. Participates in numerous network-wide committees to promote clinical employee safety initiatives. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Nursing 5 years minimum of three (3) years of recent experience with demonstrated teaching and leadership abilities. Must have experience in developing and providing staff education. Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is necessary. Background and knowledge of occupational safety, Joint Commission, PA Dept of Health, OSHA standards and compliance a plus. Experience providing safe patient handling, ergonomics and/or sharps safety education preferred.
