About the role
The incumbent serves as Painter within the Facilities Management Service, Engineering Branch at the Orlando VA Health Care System (OVAHCS). The Painter WG-09 will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and new construction sites/areas to support more than 1.8 million square feet of facility space across the main campus and associated outpatient clinics. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and dirt, spray, and fumes are usually present. The painting workers are sometimes required to prepare and coat surfaces outside in bad weather. Occasionally, they may be required to wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. The painting workers are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. They may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones. In patient care areas, PPE may be required to include a respirator/PAPR as to protect against potential air or bloodborne pathogens. The incumbent will be assigned to either the ride-out team or recovery team during hurricanes or other extreme weather events.
