Job Description Summary The Director of Engineering & Security sets the tone for Sonesta's Culture of Caring. The Director of Engineering & Security is responsible for implementing and supervising all aspects of property's and equipment preventative maintenance and repairs programs as well as overseeing the property's security operations while working with all departments to promote a safe environment. The Director of Engineering is responsible for monitoring life safety and utility systems and ensuring compliance with company, local, state and federal codes and regulations. In that capacity, the Director of Engineering & Security is responsible for protecting the company's assets and the safety of the employees and guests alike. The Director of Engineering & Security is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and the general upkeep of the entire property. The role's primary responsibility is to drive results through their entire department. In this role, the Director of Engineering & Security is expected to promote and implement property-wide strategies that will increase guest satisfaction, reduce employee turnover, maintain revenue and payroll budgets, meet and exceed productivity goals. Job Description Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside work can be performed in rain and warm temperatures. Work is also performed in both guest contact and non-guest contact areas. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except in mechanical areas and when using certain equipment. Work involves using various tools, including tools that may be considered dangerous. Protective equipment and clothing will be required. Proper safety precautions specified by the tool manufacturer and/or OSHA must be followed. Work may involve high voltage equipment and electric panels. Proper safety equipment includes but is not limited to the use of gloves that must be worn, at times for an extended period. All applicable OSHA and national and local electrical codes must be adhered to. Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., and to move objects up to 100 lbs. The person in this role may be exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly. The person in this role may be carrying, lifting or pulling items weighing up to 50lbs and pushing and / or pulling approximately 200lbs. The person in this role will be frequently standing up, bending, climbing, kneeling and moving about the hotel. Expected Hours of Work Must be flexible to work variable days of the week to include weekends and holidays. Must be flexible to work variable shifts (days, nights, overnights). Ten to twelve hour shifts sometimes required. Education and Experience At least ten years of related experience required. Previous experience in a hotel property or service industry preferable. General knowledge of qualified trade such as HVAC, electrician or plumber, carpentry is desirable. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent required; Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred Understanding of and previous experience in a union environment a plus.
