Our team also houses one of the strongest competition and consumer law investigations, litigation and regulated access practices. Covering the full spectrum of issues from immunity applications, ACCC investigations and enforcement action to allegations of misuse of market power, unconscionable and misleading conduct. Alongside this, the merger clearance practice advises on the largest and most complex merger clearance transactions in Australia, and globally. The Business Development Manager supporting the Competition team has the opportunity to work with the leading practice in the country. At Allens' this role will work side by side the Practice Lead. You'll play a strategic, partner‑facing role that drives revenue growth, deepens client relationships, elevates market presence, and strengthens the firm's BD culture. You'll shape strategy, challenge thinking, and embed future‑fit BD habits to meet and exceed practice and firm priorities. The role requires exceptional commercial judgement, the ability to translate strategy into focused partner action, and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders in high‑stakes, fast‑moving environments. You will help the practice anticipate market issues, win the most meaningful work, and build deeper, more enduring client relationships. You will: Co ‑ create and deliver the Competition practice BD plan with partners, and develop and review personal BD plans with partners and managing associates to drive focus on priority clients, opportunities and pipeline actions. Identify and share market, client and competitor insights to surface prospecting and growth opportunities, and suggest practical next steps such as outreach emails, conversation prompts or meeting preparation. Manage and coordinate with the Competition lawyers the tenders and pursuits, contributing to pursuit strategy, value propositions, written materials and pitch preparation. Allens' has a strong 'pitching-in' culture where BDMs and lawyers work hand in hand together to win opportunities. Engage directly with clients to understand their experience, coordinate client feedback discussions where appropriate, and ensure agreed actions are followed through with partners and the BD team. Work with Marketing and Communications to ensure campaigns, thought leadership and events are focused on priority clients, sectors and opportunities for the practice, with clear objectives and follow ‑ up actions. Use BD systems, tools and frameworks effectively and collaborate with BD colleagues across practices and central teams to deliver a consistent, high ‑ quality and client ‑ focused BD approach. International Given the international nature of the competition practice, you will also be responsible for coordinating the firm's engagement and relationships with our Alliance partner Linklaters and other key law firms globally. The role works closely with the firm's Linklaters Alliance relationship team to ensure alignment and effective delivery of global relationship and growth initiatives. Key responsibilities include: Working with the firm's Linklaters Alliance relationship team to develop, track and report against agreed priorities, and helping to drive partner execution of those priorities. Regularly assessing the effectiveness of existing engagement models and recommending new or differentiated ways to deepen relationships with Linklaters and other firms. Providing research, insight and practical support to Country Desk leaders and the Alliance relationship team to inform engagement and growth activity. Supporting partners before, during and after international trips, alliance meetings and conferences to maximise relationship impact and growth outcomes, including preparation, briefing and follow‑up. Working collaboratively with Partners, Practice Executives and Business Development Managers to ensure key milestones are met and initiatives remain focused on agreed outcomes. Tracking and analysing referral and relationship activity to generate insight that informs priorities and engagement decisions. Providing regular updates on global law firm and alliance developments relevant to the practice. Assisting in the preparation of high‑quality market research, presentations and reports to support partner engagement and decision‑making. This is a permanent, full-time position although we will consider candidates looking to work a 9 day fortnight or 4 day a week. Hybrid working (60% in the office)
