Description of Work Reporting to a Correctional Lieutenant III, this position is responsible for first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III's in a close custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area/post, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. - Ensuring staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are followed. Overseeing officer activities and performance by maintaining facility security through regular inspections. - Ensuring compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance and health and safety of offenders are followed. - Leading staff in carrying out tactical assignments, responding to emergency situations, and giving directions during drills, searches, and in emergencies. - Ensuring the custody, security, and welfare of offenders are maintained. Referring offenders to restrictive housing for temporary assignment. - Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, their living quarters, and work areas for contraband. - Investigating and acting appropriately regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. - Preparing and reviewing a variety of reports, completing annual performance evaluations, and assisting in assessing, evaluating, and implementing employee discipline. - Performing other related duties, as required.
