Location BBC Bronson Battle Creek Title Infection Preventionist (Full Time, 80 Hours per Pay Period) The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the detection, documentation, analysis, and prevention of infections occurring in Bronson Methodist Hospital patients, staff and visitors. The individual reports to the Infection Prevention Manager. The individual makes critical decisions and clinical judgments to implement Bronson infection prevention policy. The individual may delegate selected tasks that fall within the scope of practice to the department administrative assistant and on-call Infection Preventionist. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Master's Degree in Public Health required ; candidates with a relevant Medical Technology degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Two years of hospital experience required. CIC certification preferred ; if not certified at hire, must obtain and maintain certification once eligible. Must attain and maintain competence in infection‑prevention knowledge (CDC, Joint Commission, Michigan regulations, professional literature). Serve as a consultant on infection‑prevention issues to physicians and staff; organize lectures and teach infection‑prevention content. Familiar with Bronson quality‑improvement processes and participate in investigations and process‑improvement efforts. Written reports and charting must be complete, accurate, and legible. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission infection‑control standards . Demonstrated competency in electronic information systems , including software for data analysis, documentation, and internet research. Must have high-level interpersonal skills and the ability to verbally communicate important information in a timely manner. Represent the department in frequent committee meetings . Interactions with physicians, staff, patients, and families must reflect accuracy and discretion to avoid legal risk. Work closely with diverse groups and departments across Bronson and with external partners (county/state health departments, affiliated hospitals). Work involves high mental/visual fatigue and typical physical demands (walking, standing, bending, sitting, light lifting). Review medical records and hospital data to detect nosocomial infections; perform daily surveillance rounds. Accurately identify and document infections using CDC definitions . Assist with outbreak investigations as needed. Monitor all patients on special precautions daily. Consult with employees, physicians, patients, and families regarding Infection Control; serve as institutional consultant for infectious‑disease outbreaks and bioterrorism activity . Teach infection‑control modules in new employee orientation and review computer‑based training modules. Assess compliance with infection‑control policies and correct issues through education and behavior‑modification techniques. Assist in reviewing and editing infection‑control policies across Bronson. Report reportable diseases to local health departments per Michigan regulations. Correctly record all relevant work activities for billing and workload functions . Attend at least one statewide or national meeting per year and share new information with the department. Perform all other duties as assigned .
