About the role

We are seeking a full-time Hazardous Waste Coordinator in our environmental testing laboratory. In this position, you will be responsible for daily waste management activities and environmental sample disposal throughout the laboratory You will be responsible for following all company safety and quality policies as well as all applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations pertaining to the accumulation, storage and transport of hazardous waste. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Responsibilities

  • About you:
  • Performing tasks as outlined by the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with ALS health and safety policies and procedures including but not limited to wearing task-appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Properly care for all equipment utilized in the performance of all tasks.
  • Properly completing all hardcopy and electronic documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining clean, organized and safe work areas.
  • Direct and manage the activities of technicians within the waste management team
  • Complying with local and corporate quality assurance policies, as well as ISO 17025 lab accreditation requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by management, as required
  • Required Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences
  • 1-2 years commercial testing laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience utilizing a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Comfortable working in a high paced production laboratory environment.
  • Physical Demands:
  • The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working.
  • Able to effectively speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers, managers and external vendors either in-person, online or via phone.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware.
  • Must be able to see to view computer screens, read reports, view signage and operate equipment.
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to safely lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, gloves and labcoat etc., when required.
  • Ability to periodically sit at a desk and conduct general office work
  • Ability to accommodate to occasional exposure to unpleasant odors from environmental and laboratory samples.
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and occasional overnight hours may be required.
