Pay Range: $27.86-$38.09 Hourly Join our team and help individuals and families access safe, affordable housing. As a Housing Specialist , you will work with program participants, landlords, and community partners to support housing stability, ensure program compliance, and make a meaningful impact in the community. Essential Job Functions Researches, monitors, and interprets HUD rules and regulations. Conducts interviews, screens, and documents HCV applicants/participants. Performs annual re-certifications for program participants. Conducts orientations to collect necessary documents and to educate applicants of HCV program responsibilities. Utilizes a variety of computer software programs. Generates rent checks for landlords. Communicates with contract inspector to ensure that move in and annual inspections are completed timely. Monitors and documents rental units that fail inspection. Imposes sanctions of rent abatement for units not meeting repair deadlines. Maintains a variety of databases and paper filing systems to ensure accuracy of waiting list information and applicant eligibility. Provides community resource information to participants, applicants and the public. Provides timely information concerning the HCV Program to the general public, participants, and landlords. Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department. Other Job Functions Performs inspections on an as needed basis. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of HUD rules and regulations and program changes. Strong computer skills. Strong customer service skills in the area of mediation and conflict resolution. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment as well as make decisions within the scope of the functional area. Ability to read and comprehend a variety of written communications and publications. Ability to research, interpret and evaluate data and federal regulations. Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner. Knowledge Skills Abilities Preferred License & Certification Education Degree Associate's Degree Education Major Arts, Science, General Studies, Social Work, Human Services or related field. Education Required An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Work Experience Related One (1) year experience with Housing Choice Voucher Program or related field. Work Experience Preferred Two (2) or more years experience specific to Housing Choice Voucher Program. Other Qualifications Must pass a criminal background check and a driving record check, if required by the position. Physical Demands Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal. Hazards Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
