Reporting to the Director, Underwriting, the Underwriting Assistant assumes administrative and
corporate tasks in order to meet the departmental objectives.
Main Functions
Receive reinsurance applications and create and set up within Reflex and Sylvie systems, ensuring attention to detail so that all information populated is correct; and required authorizations have been received.
Monitor the triage queue in Reflex to ensure that cases requiring manual prioritization are identified and reprioritized as required.
Identify and escalate follow-up requests to the underwriter on high priority/large face amount cases.
Monitor underwriter queues in Reflex against the underwriting calendar to ensure that work is distributed /redistributed according to underwriter availability.
Assign mail received to the appropriate pending applications, within the required turn around time.
Effectively and proactively communicate with internal and external (e.g. ceding companies; retros) clients to seek additional information and/or answer routine requests.
Provide underwriter support and assist with handling requests effectively and efficiently.
Make requests to/follow up with retro-cessionaires.
Assist with projects and reporting as required.
Complete any other necessary tasks required from the Director.
