negotiate contracts with the firm's key clients, including MSAs and Panel Agreements, and advise on contracts with subcontractors and other Grant Thornton member firms globally
deal with a wide range of other commercial contracting issues, including: advising on emerging legal risks, such as data privacy and the use of AI in both the provision of our services and procurement contracts
interpreting and explaining contractual provisions for the benefit of non-legally trained colleagues in the firm
providing legal input into commercial disputes
advise on contracting best practice and identifying and implementing efficiencies
collaborate closely with colleagues in the Legal Team, as well as Risk, Compliance and Independence to deliver legally sound but commercially relevant advice
identify trends in the risks that the firm and the professional services industry faces, and how best to mitigate them
help inform and educate colleagues across the firm about legal and commercial risk issues, including by providing input into training and the firm's guidance, policies and manuals.

Requirements
We're looking for an experienced commercial contracts lawyer with exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, and a pragmatic, commercial approach to delivering legal solutions.
The role will suit someone with the following skills, experience, and attributes:
Experience inhouse within a top-tier or large mid-tier accounting or professional services firm; or experience in a top-tier or large mid-tier law firm
Australian legal practising certificate (unrestricted)
Strong experience across general commercial legal work including drafting, negotiating, and advising on a range of commercial contracts
Well-developed commercial acumen with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects concurrently, whilst delivering exceptional business outcomes
Have an analytical mind and the ability to approach problems independently, using critical thinking to develop and deliver innovative solutions

About this role
Grant Thornton is looking to further enhance our in-house legal team with the appointment of an additional Senior Legal Counsel.
As a key member of our In-house Legal Team you will be reporting directly to our General Counsel and will play an important role in providing sound outcomes and commercial judgement across the firm's legal matters.
