Job Posting Title: Nursing Student Academic Success Faculty Position Type: Faculty Department: LSUE AA - HSBT - Nursing (Karen Walton (00283448)) Work Location: 0102C Health Science And Technology Building Pay Grade: Academic Job Description: ***THIS IS AN ON-SITE POSITION LOCATED ON THE EUNICE AND LAFAYETTE, LA CAMPUSES*** Under the supervision of the Nursing Program Director, the Nursing Student Academic Success Faculty, engages in the duties and responsibilities of a nursing faculty member and is responsible for fostering a positive, supportive, and effective learning environment that promotes student retention, academic success, program completion, and ultimate success on the NCLEX-RN licensure examination. This on site, in person role focuses on providing individualized academic, clinical, and personal support to help students achieve the competencies required for progression and graduation from the ASN program. Job Responsibilities 50% Acts as a liaison to at-risk nursing students whether self-identified or faculty/staff identified. supports nursing students in establishing goals to promote success. Meet one-on-one with students on a regular basis to monitor utilization of success strategies; Coach students in test taking skills and strategies for preparation for all exams, (Course, standardized, exit, and NCLEX-RN NextGen); Handles confidential nursing student information with tact, discretion and in compliance with FERPA regulations. 25% Develop classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulated clinical experiences to implement the curriculum design. Facilitates learning experiences in the classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulated clinical environment across the nursing curriculum. Maintains control of the learning environment. Utilizes a variety of teaching methods to accommodate the learning styles of the students. Provides opportunities for active student involvement through practice and application. Demonstrates a command of subject matter while keeping diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind. Begins and ends class, laboratory, and/or clinical on time. Models and encourages a collaborative faculty-student relationship. Provides and utilizes course materials that enhances student learning and aligns with course policies as outlined in the course syllabus. Conducts laboratory experiences and performs clinical supervision in clinical agencies. Completes validations as required by contract. Provides/Coordinates student orientation for clinical experiences. Makes clinical assignments for students at the clinical setting at designated time. Supervises students in patient care areas in collaboration with staff. Conducts conferences with students promoting reflection of experiences. Maintains ongoing weekly evaluation of individual student progress in clinical area. Provides timely ongoing verbal and written feedback to students. Advises students toward personal development in dealing with clinical stress. Provides timely communication with the nursing program director and semester coordinator on issues that arise with students and clinical sites. Comply with university and nursing unit policies. 10% Documents and maintains progress records of nursing students to assist faculty/staff in assessing academic progress with educational plans; Develop forms, surveys, brochures, and record-keeping procedures; Gather, interpret, and disseminate data to guide faculty decision making in regard to teaching, curricular planning, resource allocation, and quality programming; Monitor effectiveness of success program and reports findings to the Program Director and faculty. Analyze relevant student, cohort, and program data to identify gaps in outcomes; Monitors student progress and maintain student records; Develops a formalized mandatory process for remediation of high-risk nursing students. Other duties as assigned by program director 5% Collaborates with various Student Services areas such as Counseling, Student Disability Services, and Financial Aid, etc.; Collaborates with faculty/staff to determine specific nursing student needs and correlate those needs with course objectives; Responds to faculty/staff submitted alerts; Assists faculty and staff in identifying trends and researching best practices in nursing student retention and completion; Maintains ongoing contact and good public relations with prospective students and staff 5% Maintains evidence of faculty qualifications, including ongoing validation of current licensure or privilege to practice nursing in Louisiana (or compact state), healthcare requirements, and changes in educational credentials
