Transmission Engineer Senior Position Overview The Transmission Engineer performs electrical engineering duties for the T&D Engineering Department of the Grand River Dam Authority as assigned by the Sr. Manager, T&D Engineering. Supervision Received Reports directly to the Transmission Line Engineering Manager or designated supervisor. Supervised Personnel Normally does not supervise any other positions. May assume specific temporary supervisory duties for certain project functions and/or training duties. Essential job functions include, but are not limited to: Develops, reviews, and directs engineering designs for all sizes and complexities: Generates/interprets PLS-CADD models, plan and profile diagrams, detail drawings and material lists. Produce estimates, schedules, and execution plans for assigned projects. Draft scopes of work for engineering and construction contractors. Develop data sheets and specifications for equipment. Supports the bidding process for engineering and construction services and recommends award. Select equipment vendors. Has project responsibility for technical issues, engineering information, reporting, and modeling pertaining to design of the transmission system, including checkout of new facilities, engineering support to technicians and modifications to improve existing high voltage lines. Subject matter expert in the following tasks: Prepares project management documentation including schedules & estimates. Develops positive communication and productive relationships with fellow employees, industry contacts and customers. Performs engineering analysis, calculations, design, studies, and other duties associated with maintaining, constructing, and operating high voltage transmission line facilities. Creates specifications; prepares bid documents; evaluates bids received; prepares and presents reports and recommendations as required for purchase of materials, equipment, services, and miscellaneous items associated with high voltage transmission lines and other assigned projects. Coordinates or verifies work of outside contractors and/or engineering firms concerning transmission line design activities; monitors work orders, project progress, change orders, and contractor payments of assigned areas. After-hours work may be required under system emergency or storm conditions. Skills, Knowledge, Qualities: Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel, Access, and Word. Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems. Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills. Familiarity with lockout tag-out procedures. Must be comfortable giving verbal presentations before groups. Has a grasp of concepts such as: structural design, foundation design, grading design, geotechnical engineering analysis, electrical circuit analysis, statics, thermodynamics & electromagnetic fields. Education, Training, Experience: Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering from an accredited college or university is required, a power emphasis is preferred. Additional courses or practical experience in electrical power transmission line design, systems analysis, computer programming, and project and facility management are desirable. Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a line engineer with an electric utility, or six (6) years with registration as a Professional Engineer (PE). Certificates, Registrations, Licenses: Valid Oklahoma driver's license Valid Oklahoma driver's license, or the ability to convert within 30 days for those with an out of state driver's license that are an Oklahoma resident. If not registered, must have the ability to acquire PE registration within 2 years of employment. Physical/Mental Requirements & Working Conditions: Must be able to walk, climb stairs, crawl, work from ladders and elevated platforms. Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment. Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis. Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail. Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices. Work is usually performed in an office environment with outdoor excursions for design, testing, and troubleshooting of equipment when necessary.
