Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Senior Scientist will collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team in the design, execution, analysis, and reporting of research projects focused on viral immunology, host-pathogen interactions, in alphaviruses and other clinically relevant viruses, including RSV, measles virus, and SARS-CoV-2. The position will involve both in vivo and in vitro experimental work, including studies using infectious viruses, transgenic mouse models, cell culture systems, serologic assays, molecular cloning, neutralization assays, and flow cytometry. The Senior Scientist will contribute to experimental planning, protocol development, data analysis, manuscript preparation, grant-related work, and supervision/training of junior laboratory personnel. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Collaborate with the PI and research team to design and execute research projects involving alphaviruses and other viral pathogens. Perform in vivo studies, including breeding, genotyping, and maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies; coordinating animal experiments; monitoring animals; collecting tissues and samples; and ensuring compliance with institutional animal protocols. Conduct in vitro experiments using cell culture models and infectious viruses, including viral infection assays, neutralization assays, ELISA-based assays, and immune phenotyping. Perform molecular biology techniques including cloning, plasmid preparation, PCR-based assays, and preparation of reagents for viral or protein-expression studies. Perform and analyze flow cytometry experiments involving immune cells and/or infected-cell models. Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records, experimental protocols, mouse colony records, reagent inventories, and data files. Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results at laboratory meetings and in written reports. Assist with preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, grant applications, regulatory documents, and progress reports. Ensure compliance with biosafety, animal care, chemical safety, and institutional research regulations. Train and supervise junior staff, students, or trainees in laboratory techniques, experimental design, data organization, and safe laboratory practices. Working Conditions: Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
