Description of Work This position is a permanent full-time Youth Program Education Assistant (YPEA) II in the Behaviorally Advanced Residential Treatment (BART) program that serves adult men (over the age of 18) from the Central Region of the state who have a developmental disability, demonstrate extreme and dangerous forms of aberrant behavior, and who have a history of failed treatment placements and/or repeat criminal offenses. The BART program was created specifically for individuals who have been unsuccessful in developing and maintaining an effective, pro-social behavioral repertoire in other treatment settings. The YPEA II hired for this position will be responsible for supervising staff assigned to the BART Male Unit. This position serves as the supervisor, assigns staff to scheduled activities, and ensures that each employee under his/her supervision carries out assigned duties and responsibilities in the prescribed manner and within the framework of established policies. This position also provides specialized direct services to individuals with extreme behavioral challenges. These services are in the form of behavioral programming, habilitative training/activities, and in assisting with health care needs to whatever degree is necessary. Training covers a broad area and includes complex behavioral programming, role modeling, on-the-spot counseling and decision-making, transportation, crisis intervention, maintaining home-like setting, and such entities as self-help, communication, activities of daily living, generalization of skills learned in more formal settings, etc. Health care ranges from minimal levels of assistance with relatively independent individuals to extensive supervision to protect individuals from injuring themselves or others. High school graduation and three years of experience working with individuals with significant behavioral needs and intellectual disabilities and two years of supervisory experience with emphasis on behavioral management, preferably with one year of such experience being with individuals with significant behavioral needs and intellectual disabilities; Or an associate degree in a human services field and two years of experience working with individuals with significant behavioral needs and intellectual disabilities with emphasis on behavioral management, preferably with one year of such experience being with individuals with significant behavioral needs and intellectual disabilities; Or a four-year degree and one year of experience working with individuals with significant behavioral needs and intellectual disabilities, with emphasis on behavioral management; Or a four-year degree in a human services field. Physical Requirements: Employee will be required to complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) skills and certification in first aid and CPR.
