About the role

Zero Touch Metrology, part of Sandvik, is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support the development and execution of advanced metrology capabilities for Zero Touch™ systems. This role provides expertise in both contact and non-contact metrology, develops inspection strategies, and performs statistical and dimensional analysis of customer parts. The position serves as a technical expert and mentor, collaborates with engineering teams to resolve measurement deviations, and converts measurement data into actionable insights that improve product quality and system performance.

Requirements

Technical Expertise

Strong foundation in precision dimensional metrology

Deep knowledge of GD&T, calibration, measurement uncertainty, MSA, and statistics

Experience with contact and non-contact metrology systems: CMMs, profilometers, interferometry, structured light, laser triangulation, LVDTs, chromatic confocal, capacitive sensors

Proficiency in metrology and 3D analysis software: Metrolog X4, PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, ATOS (GOM),

Ability to generate inspection data from CAD models (SolidWorks preferred)

Experience with CNC machines or advanced capital equipment

Strong analytical and mathematical skills (geometry, trigonometry, statistics)

Software & Tools

Proficiency with MS Office (advanced Excel required)

Experience with version control (Git, SVN, etc.)

Basic programming knowledge (C#, C++, PLCs) is a plus

Additional Requirements

Availability for periodic travel up to ~25%

Valid driver's license, passport, and ability to travel

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)

3-6+ years of relevant experience, including: 2+ years in applications engineering

3+ years developing metrology inspection strategies

3+ years working with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)

Experience in CMM and metrology environments preferred
