Base Pay: $24.25 Hourly . NOTE: This temporary position will not exceed 29 hours per week. SUMMARY: Installs, configures, and repairs microcomputer hardware and software systems. Provides hardware and software technical assistance and support to system users. Utilizes a working knowledge of computer hardware and software systems in order to carry out installation and set-up. Possess and display applied knowledge of currently supported versions of various Microsoft products: operating systems and office applications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Verify equipment components and software ordered. Create inventory sheet for computer equipment. Installs or assists in the installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, and disk drives. Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs into computer. Configures software and observes system functions to verify correct system operation. Instructs user in use of equipment, software, and manuals. Answers client's inquiries in person and/or via telephone concerning systems operation. Diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation. OTHER DUTIES: When applicable, writes new PC-based applications. Refers major hardware problems to outside service personnel when necessary. Attends technical conferences and seminars to keep abreast of new software and hardware product developments, as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 1) Associates degree from an accredited two-year college or university in a technology-related field, plus one year of experience in the information technology field preferred, or 2) High School or GED plus three years related experience and training. At least one year of the experience in the information technology field must have included: installation of hardware and peripheral components; familiarity with software packages, including their installation; diagnosis of problems; and exposure to networking. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only. LANGUAGE SKILLS: (Communication Skills) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be well versed in currently supported versions of Microsoft operating systems. A working knowledge of at least one high level PC development language is desirable. Must have experience with a variety of off-the-shelf software including spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and word processors, etc. Ability to write new PC-based applications, and experience in diagnosing PC and network problems is preferred. Experience in networking is desirable. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License. The following professional certifications are preferred: 1) CompTIA A+ Certification; 2) Microsoft Office Specialist Certification; 3) Microsoft Certified Software Engineer; 4) Cisco Certifications; 5) Telecommunications Industry Association and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards.
