Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive occupational clinical care:
- Conduct pre-placement, periodic, and fitness-for-duty exams; return-to-work and work restrictions.

- Conduct health risk assessments; interpret and apply OSHA, NIOSH, NRC, CDC, ADA, FMLA, and Illinois workers' compensation guidance as applicable.
- Participate in incident investigations; provide medical insights and trend analyses to reduce injuries and improve programs.
- Provide guidance on occupational stress, fatigue, and behavioral health resources; support wellness programming tailored to a national laboratory environment.
- Ensure high standards of documentation and quality.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records in the clinic EMR/occupational health management system.
- Contribute to policy/protocol development, quality improvement, and training for staff and supervisors.
- Position Requirements
- MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- Unrestricted Illinois medical license (or ability to obtain by start date).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain by start date).
- Demonstrated experience treating acute injuries/illnesses in occupational medicine, urgent care - including suturing and splinting of simple fractures, emergency medicine, or a closely related setting.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and customer-service skills; adaptable to unique operational and regulatory needs of a national laboratory.
- Ability to work onsite, midday, 20 hours per week. Weekdays only. Very limited call.
Requirements
- Board certification in Occupational Medicine (ABPM) preferred; other primary board certifications (e.g., FM, IM, EM, PM&R) with relevant experience considered.
- 3+ years of occupational medicine and/or urgent care experience (government or national lab/industrial experience highly valued). Early-career physicians with strong rotations or fellowships in occupational/environmental health are welcome to apply.
- Experience with chemical and radiation hazard medicine, or demonstrated self-directed learning to quickly build this competency.
- Current MRO certification (MROCC or AAMRO) and CAOHC Professional Supervisor of the Audiometric Monitoring Program (PS/A) credential; or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Familiarity with OSHA recordkeeping inputs, workers' compensation in Illinois, fitness-for-duty, and return-to-work best practices.
- Experience with occupational health EMR/management systems (e.g., Cority, Enterprise Health, OHM) and standard office tools.
- Schedule and work environment:
- Part-time, 20 hours per week with core midday coverage; final schedule set with the Medical Director. No weekends.
- 100% onsite at Argonne's Occupational Health Clinic in Lemont, IL.
- Collaborative, multidisciplinary team supporting mission-critical science and engineering operations.

Argonne National Laboratory seeks a part-time Physician to provide high-quality, onsite occupational medical care for a diverse workforce of approximately 3,800 staff working with a variety of physical, chemical, biological, and radiological hazards. You will practice within a well-established clinic alongside an experienced physician medical director and two seasoned nurse practitioners, delivering injury/illness care, medical surveillance, return-to-work evaluations, and wellness support in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
