Job Summary
The Strategic Communications Coordinator plans, manages and delivers integrated communications projects and initiatives that advance the University of British Columbia's institutional narrative, strategic priorities and presidential initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Strategist, Digital Marketing, the role provides communications planning, coordination, and advisory support for both presidential communications and institutional digital and content marketing, by developing high-quality materials, including presidential engagement assets and digital communications across channels such as social media, web and paid campaigns.
The position works collaboratively with communications professionals and institutional partners across the university to provide communications expertise, coordinate project execution and ensure alignment with institutional priorities and messaging, as well as research, draft and coordinate materials for a range of audiences and platforms, strengthening the university's public profile.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Senior Strategist, Digital Marketing, Strategic Communications.
Work Performed
Plan, coordinates and implements integrated communications projects and initiatives that advance UBC's institutional and presidential priorities;
Providing communications planning and consultative services to partners and stakeholders across the university related to institutional communications initiaves and digital campaigns;
Developing communications strategies, messaging frameworks and supporting communications resources for presidential engagements and institutional priorities;
Manages the development and delivery of communications assets related to presidential engagements, including remarks, background materials, briefing notes and supporting content;
Conducting research and gathering information from subject matter experts to inform communications materials;
Researching, writing and editing communications materials to ensure clarity, consistency and alignment with institutional messaging and strategic objectives;
Leading the planning, coordination and execution of institutional social media initiatives, including editorial planning, content development, publishing and cross-platform coordination;
Coordinating, producing and adapting digital-first content production, including social media assets, photography, short-form video;
Managing the coordination of social media content creators and user-generated content initiatives;
Coordinating communications projects involving digital campaigns coordination, moderation and performance monitoring;
Provides guidance and support to contributors and collaborators involved in communications initiatives and digital content development;
Keeps current on communications trends, digital communications practices and emerging platforms to support improvement;
Collaborates with the Senior Director, Strategic Communications on various initiatives and special projects, as needed.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Negative perceptions of the department and the university will result if incorrect information is given. If university content cannot be deployed efficiently this could have more significant reputational impacts on the university.
