About the role

Location: Central Cambridge A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on EPSRC programme grant, MaThRad (Mathematical Theory of Radiation Transport). This five-year interdisciplinary programme of research will use modern mathematical methods from probability theory, advanced Monte Carlo methods and inverse problems to develop novel approaches to the theory and application of radiation transport. The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK. The key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the development and implementation of advanced Monte Carlo radiation transport methods across different software and hardware platforms, and the application of these methods to the modelling and simulation of nuclear reactor systems and medical procedures. The successful candidate must have or be close to obtaining a PhD in Physics or Nuclear Engineering, preferably in the fields of Reactor Physics and Radiation Transport Modelling Methods. They should have a strong mathematical foundation in Monte Carlo methods, proven ability of their application, demonstrated software development skills and an ability to work in a team. Applicants with a related background should provide evidence of their versatility. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded. Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: GBP 33,002 - GBP 35,608 Research Associate: GBP 37,694 - GBP 46,049 Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months or until 31/08/2027, whichever comes sooner.
