Job Summary The Assistant PM Major Projects- Generation Construction supports the planning, coordination, and execution of capital and construction projects by applying foundational project management principles under the guidance of a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. This role assists across the full project life cycle-including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, transition to operations, and close‑out-while developing project management capabilities and ensuring project objectives related to safety, cost, schedule, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction are achieved. The Assistant Project Manager collaborates with engineering, construction, project controls, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support safe, reliable, and cost‑effective project delivery in accordance with industry best practices, NIPSCO Organizational Process Assets, and Project Management Guidelines and Standards. Essential Functions Supports project integration activities across the project life cycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and transition to operations Assists in defining and managing project scope, including safety, cost, schedule, quality, and resource objectives Supports development and maintenance of project schedules, cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, and performance tracking tools Assists with quality management activities to ensure project deliverables meet requirements and customer expectations Identifies project risks and assists with risk mitigation planning and issue tracking Supports procurement activities, including coordination with suppliers and contractors under established processes Assists in monitoring contractor performance and field construction activities for safety, quality, and compliance Supports invoice review, cost tracking, and project documentation accuracy Applies schedule and cost management tools to support delivery within approved project objectives Utilizes project management information systems (PMIS), scheduling software, and reporting tools to support project controls Effectively communicates project information, status updates, and issues to project leaders and stakeholders Builds foundational stakeholder engagement skills by supporting coordination with internal teams, contractors, and operations partners Applies NIPSCO risk management and human resource processes to support effective team coordination and contractor performance Learns and applies industry best practices, organizational standards, and project governance processes Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline plus 2 years of related technical experience OR 5 years of project, architectural‑engineering, construction, or technical experience Current Construction Manager (CM), Project Engineer II (PE2), Senior Project Developer, or equivalent role Working knowledge of project management methodology, processes, tools, and techniques (PM maturity Level 3) Familiarity with project management guidelines, standards, and job aids Developing proficiency with project management information systems (PMIS), scheduling software, cost management tools, and performance metrics Demonstrated ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills in a team‑based project environment Ability to work effectively under deadlines, changing priorities, and field conditions Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule Ability to work in environments with noise, dust, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and chemical exposure Valid motor vehicle operator's license upon hire
