Conduct comprehensive patient and family assessments, including medical and family history, diagnosis review, and care planning
Analyze genetic and family history data to assess individualized risk and provide tailored counseling
Partner with providers and care teams to support appropriate referrals, care coordination, and genetic testing
Educate patients and families by translating complex genetic concepts into clear, compassionate, and understandable information
Interpret laboratory and genetic testing results and communicate findings to patients, families, and providers
Support patients through difficult or unexpected results, providing emotional guidance and crisis support as needed
Address psychosocial and ethical considerations related to genetic conditions and testing
Guide patients through informed decision-making in a supportive, non-directive environment, including family planning when applicable
Develop detailed consultation reports to clearly communicate findings and recommendations
Collaborate with pediatric, prenatal, and specialty care teams as applicable to provide comprehensive genetic counseling services
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, ethical, and professional standards within scope of practice
Triage patients for additional consultation with state or specialty genetics programs when appropriate
Requirements
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling required
ABGC board certified or board eligible required
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in genetic counseling or a related field required
Strong knowledge of genetic counseling practices, clinical standards, and patient care principles
Ability to integrate psychosocial support into clinical care with empathy and professionalism
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex information to diverse audiences
Strong critical thinking, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Ability to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative team environment
Commitment to patient confidentiality and compassionate care
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new systems quickly
