Prior experience as a first assist in a community hospital or high-volume surgical setting.
Experience with laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical workflows.
Familiarity with Epic or similar EMR systems.

The Per Diem Surgical MD provides high-quality first assist support for general surgery cases within South Shore Hospital's operating rooms. This role enhances surgical team capacity, supports timely access to operative care, and ensures safe, efficient intraoperative management for patients across the South Shore community.
The physician works collaboratively with attending surgeons, anesthesiology, nursing, and perioperative staff to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered surgical care.
Compensation Pay Range:
$153.00 - $200.00
Provide intraoperative first assist support for general surgery cases, including tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and procedural support as directed by the attending surgeon.
Participate in pre- and post-operative patient assessment, preparation, and postoperative evaluation as needed to ensure continuity of care.
Complete accurate, timely operative notes and clinical documentation in accordance with SSH and regulatory standards.
Collaborate effectively with surgeons, OR nursing, anesthesia, and ancillary staff to maintain safe workflows and high-quality surgical outcomes.
Adhere to all SSH policies, infection-control standards, credentialing requirements, and perioperative safety protocols.
Provide flexible, per-diem coverage based on surgical volume, staffing needs, and emergent case requirements.
Required Qualifications
Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
Current Massachusetts medical license and DEA registration.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Demonstrated proficiency in first assist techniques for general surgery procedures.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-based care skills.
