About the role
The Cloud Team designs, builds, and operates Remitly's AWS cloud foundation - the networking fabric and infrastructure tooling that every product team depends on. We manage cloud infrastructure at significant scale (hundreds to thousands of accounts), move money for millions of customers, and treat reliability, security, and operational excellence as non-negotiable. This is not an ops or tooling-configuration role: we need engineers who can design and build scalable systems and services, not just apply Terraform. As a Cloud Engineer, you will own deep parts of our cloud and networking stack, ship high-quality Go services, and build internal abstractions that reduce cognitive load for the broader engineering org. You Will: Lead architecture decisions on cloud topology, multi-account governance, cross-region connectivity, and platform abstractions used by every engineering team. Own and evolve our edge infrastructure - CloudFront distributions, AWS Shield, WAF configurations, CDN failover strategies, and latency-optimized routing Build and maintain production Go services and CLI tooling that automate, observe, and extend our cloud platform at scale - this means writing software systems, not just scripts or IaC. Design and operate Remitly's global partner and bank connectivity network - VPNs (IPSec/IKEv2), Direct Connect, BGP routing to financial partners worldwide, and the broader multi-account, multi-region topology that underlies all of Remitly's payments infrastructure. Collaborate with SRE, Security, and Platform teams to embed observability, compliance, and operational excellence into cloud paved pathways. Troubleshoot complex network issues across distributed cloud environments, applying deep knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and traffic flow analysis. Participate in on-call rotation (5-person weekly rotation); occasional late syncs with Seattle (4-6 PM CET). You Have: 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure - with significant hands-on AWS depth. Strong proficiency in at least one backend language; Go experience is strongly preferred. Deep knowledge of cloud networking: VPC design and subnetting, routing, Transit Gateway, DNS, load balancing. Experience with edge infrastructure management: CloudFront distributions, AWS Shield, WAF configurations, and CDN failover strategies. Experience building and operating infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred). Understanding of cloud and infrastructure management concepts, including multi-account governance and organizational tooling; Kubernetes/EKS familiarity is a plus.
