About the role

In this role, you will contribute to the evolution and production of West of Centre and its content on all platforms. Working with the Executive Producer and Senior Producer, you will work in close partnership with CBC Alberta, ensuring the needs of Alberta and national CBC audiences are met through this programming. This will mean clearly understanding the unique character of this show and its content, as it fits into the national conversation. It will mean applying creativity in programming, smarts in audience growth, and marrying all that up with an understanding of CBC News' Journalistic Standards and Practices. You may be telling stories in the show, booking on-mic talent, writing scripts, lining up guests, and ensuring constant communication with the show's leadership about your work. You're responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: Pitching and producing items for a weekly Alberta-based news and politics show with a presence on multiple platforms, including but not limited to podcasting and digital audio Contributing ideas and executing video and social content to grow the audience for the show, as assigned Creating uniquely Canadian news content that will soar in a crowded podcast and broadcast environment Executing on best practices for podcast packaging and promotion Writing and structuring interviews and panel scripts as needed Presenting content on-mic as needed Editing, mixing and publishing interviews and weekly audio episodes as needed Creating companion content on text-based, video and social platforms, as assigned by your Senior Producer Using data informed best practices to produce content for a national audience Upholding CBC News Podcasts & Audio's' strategy for creating multiplatform content that centres Canadian audiences, Canadian perspectives and CBC's journalism and journalists About You: You have a track record of producing high quality audio storytelling and are knowledgeable and passionate about the podcasting industry You have at least 3 years experience working on audio programs (news or current affairs, long form, serialized, talk or panel based) You are knowledgeable and passionate about Alberta news, current affairs and politics, and how it fits within the national news conversation You have experience, working on tight deadlines in collaboration with news teams You are a news nerd, with a knack for responding to developing news in the way that will best serve your show and your audience. You are knowledgeable about the CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices, or have experience with similar standards in another large journalistic organization You're a skilled storyteller who loves to write and produce for the ear, and also understands that audio

Unposting Date: 2026-06-12 11:59 PM CBC News Podcasts and Audio is looking for an Alberta-based Producer with experience in news, political coverage, podcasting and broadcasting. This position will support West of Centre, and requires knowledge of Alberta politics as it fits within the national political context, as well as podcast, radio and audio production skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams across the CBC news ecosystem. The work is key to the CBC News Podcasts & Audio's mission - to create and amplify CBC's journalism in the audio space. This is a 12-month position, which can be based in either Calgary or Edmonton, which will entail full time work, Monday to Friday, and primarily daytime hours but with flexibility required for working with team members coast-to-coast, and to respond to breaking news developments. About CBC News Podcasts & Audio: We work with CBC News teams across the country to help support local always-on podcasts, network audio and video teams with a presence in digital audio, and to create and develop original news podcasts and programming for Canadian audiences. We work in deep collaboration with all CBC Newsrooms, CBC News Audience Growth Department, and the CBC Podcast Audience Growth Hub to create audience-first content, and build best practices and skills around digital audio and audience growth throughout all of CBC's news teams.
