Academic Counselor 1 Job Description
Provides academic guidance to both current and prospective students as a means to ensure their success at LSU and to help define their academic goals.
Job Responsibilities:
Provides educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses, and determining appropriate solutions for students. Follows through and tracks the advancement of students as they strive to accomplish their academic goals. Additionally, provides case management to students who do not meet their educational requirements and offers guidance toward other academic programs. Utilizes various electronic and print-based materials, as well as multiple university databases, to interpret LSU degree programs. Serves as the conduit for students in interpreting and enforcing university policies and procedures that students encounter in University College and other LSU entities. Manages an advisor: student ratio of approximately 1:400, serving prospective students, new students, re-entry students, transfer students, and other students who are enrolled in University College. Records advising notes in a variety of formats for reference and for referrals to appropriate campus departments and agencies. Guides students through a variety of academic appeals processes and presents these appeals to the administration on behalf of the students. (90%)
Conducts a variety of academic workshops and public presentations for current and prospective students and parents, including, but not limited to, Bengal Bound Orientation. Provides advising support through the Student Success One Stop Shop as assigned. May include occasional nights and weekends. Performs other duties as assigned by leadership. (10%)
