DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Solid Waste Management (SWM) Landfill Engineering unit is responsible for the landfill closure, post-closure care, and end-use development of the 2,200-acre Fresh Kills Landfill (FKL) in Staten Island, NY. FKL consists of four landfill Sections (Section 2/8, 3/4, 6/7, and 1/9) and ancillary facilities, including the Leachate Treatment Plant and Flare Stations. The last phase of final cover construction was completed in 2021. Currently, FKL is operating under Post Closure Care and End Use development phases. The Landfill Engineering unit is seeking to hire a candidate to be part of team operation of Fresh Kills Landfill. The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Provide administrative and technical support to staff in an engineering / technical environment - Participate in field visits/inspections with project managers - Support special projects and research tasks as assigned - Assist with data entry, filing, and document management - Respond to phone and email inquiries professionally - Assist with scheduling meetings and maintaining calendars - Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
