BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: EDUCATION: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes professional knowledge of standard methods, techniques, concepts, and principles of one or more specialty areas of librarianship; Knowledge of the principles and concepts underlying the organization and management of information resources and the role each specialized function plays to create a whole library or information center; Knowledge of on-line database searching and research techniques and capabilities of pos ]processing to meet user requirements. Skill and knowledge in utilizing computer databases containing various reference materials to which access is sought by customer. OR EDUCATION: 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., if related in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position.
