Receive and prepare patients for examination and treatment; obtain and record history and vital signs; chart and document in the medical record
Prepare rooms, equipment, and supplies based on examination type or patient needs
Assist physicians and/or Advanced Practice Clinicians with minor procedures and physical examinations
Perform minor procedures including suture and staple removal, application of dressings, splints, casts, and more
Collect laboratory specimens and assist with diagnostic tests, treatments, procedures, and surgery
Collect patient information from incoming calls and/or patient portal messages for appropriate referrals
Assist with patient registration, co-payment collection, and prior authorizations as needed
Clean and disinfect equipment per departmental policies and procedures
Participate in process improvement and risk-related departmental activities under department leadership
With approved training, may serve as a medical scribe - accurately transcribing, proofreading, and maintaining medical documentation
Requirements
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential - required
Completion of ABR-OE (Assessment Based Recognition in Order Entry) qualifying courses - required
Graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited medical assisting program, or completion of a program with a minimum of 720 clock hours including a 160-hour externship - required within 18 months of hire
Minimum 1 year of experience in a practice setting - preferred
Current Health Care Provider CPR/BLS certification, or ability to obtain prior to completing orientation
Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, basic laboratory values, and pharmacology
Familiarity with medical equipment, instruments, safety protocols, aseptic technique, infection control, patient rights, and HIPAA requirements
Strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to adapt to changing workloads
Must successfully complete all onboarding education and competencies prior to performing competency-specific tasks
