Description of Work Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates, such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. This position is assigned to Pasquotank Correctional Institution, a large male close and minimum custody correctional facility. Position will be assigned to a housing unit in the custody area. Effective verbal/written communication with other staff, inmates, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent/verbally abusive. Conduct continuous visual/audio surveillance of assigned work area. Accurately operate office machines/prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources. Demonstrate/instruct inmates in the proper safe use of tools, equipment/supplies. Review, analyze/evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interview/documentation/ personal observation. Perform crisis intervention/routine counseling to include suicide prevention. Account for supplies/equipment. Implement /manage correctional programs. About the Division of Institutions : The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
