You'll work with engineering teams to support NPI and product improvement, taking designs from concept through prototype testing to manufacture and handover. Responsibilities include producing and reviewing drawings and models, solving design challenges with sound engineering, and ensuring designs meet customer specifications, quality, cost, and schedule targets. You will report to the Commercial Engineering Manager (Design) and be based at either the Wolverhampton or Tewkesbury Moog sites. As a Design Engineer, you will: Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for rotating equipment and hydraulic systems, from concept to production. Collaborate with project, systems and stress teams to ensure designs meet all customer performance and airworthiness requirements and applicable regulations. Create accurate technical drawings and 3D CAD models suitable for manufacture and assembly. Apply GD&T and perform tolerance analysis to verify fit, function and manufacturability. Participate in DFMEA and risk identification activities; identify technical risks and mitigation strategies early. Present design concepts, progress updates and final designs to customers and stakeholders; incorporate feedback into design iterations. Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain and product engineering teams to deliver robust, producible products. Support prototype build, testing and troubleshooting; iterate designs based on test results. Generate and maintain design documentation: BOMs, revision history and engineering change notices (ECN). Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and continuous improvement activities. Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing partners to specify components, tolerances and manufacturing processes. Able to travel overseas. To be considered for the Design Engineer role, here's what you'll need to bring with you: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or HNC/HND in mechanical engineering with significant relevant experience. Practical experience in mechanical design (typically 3+ years). Proficiency in producing technical drawings and specifications; working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups. Experience with 3D CAD systems (Siemens NX preferred) and CAD best practices. Experience with PLM/PDM systems (Teamcenter preferred). Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to engineering tasks. Good verbal and written communication skills; confident presenter able to communicate design intent to customers and non‑technical stakeholders. Desirable skills and tools: Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or actively working towards registration. Familiarity with rotating equipment (gears, bearings, housings, seals, shafts, couplings) and/or hydraulic systems (valves, solenoids, servos, brakes). Experience in a safety‑critical industry (aerospace, nuclear or equivalent) with an understanding of regulated design and airworthiness principles is advantageous. Experience contributing to DFMEAs and risk assessments; ability to identify and manage technical risks. Personal attributes: Creative and innovative with strong spatial awareness and the ability to generate multiple concepts. Detail‑oriented with high standards for accuracy and manufacturability. Team player who can also take ownership of individual design tasks. Learning mindset with interest in new technologies and continuous improvement. Able to manage competing priorities and work within project timelines.
