The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate (DAVA) providing professional advocacy and support services aligned under the Family Advocacy Program (FAP). In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0101, Social Science Series. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing a wide range of essential support and advocacy services, liaison services, and care to DOMESTIC ABUSE VICTIMS in accordance with generally accepted procedures and techniques. Assist victims of DOMESTIC ABUSE in their effort towards the process of recovery, through advocacy and resource information. Conduct assessments of individuals to determine required needs and evaluates safety and levels of risks; provide emotional support, guidance, and advice to victims in crisis while addressing the individual's needs and desires. Assist victims in prioritizing actions and establishing short- and long-term goals related to the recovery DOMESTIC ABUSE. Provide relevant information and discuss available options to help support victims in their recovery/treatment decision making. Assist victims with gaining access to service providers and available victim support resources that may help victims explore avenues of actions. Provide support to victims in securing medical treatment for injuries; safe shelter; protective orders; court orders; support before, during, and after trials; appointments; educational services; transportation; financial services; and any other services deemed necessary. Facilitate or assist in the planning, scheduling, and delivery of sexual assault/sexual harassment response training for all personnel, leadership, deploying personnel, and other key functional stakeholders to include annual refresher training. Coordinate guest speakers, arrange announcements and marketing, and coordinate logistics for various training activities. Serve as a member of Case Management Groups to monitor victims' progress and recovery, ensure their needs are met, and to represent victims without violating victim confidentiality or disclosing privileged communications. OR EDUCATION: Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
