Job Summary:
Patrols and enforces parking and traffic regulations on roads, highways, parking lots, and properties on the County of Kauai ensuring that all parking and traffic rules are observed; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties:

Patrols assigned area by vehicle or on foot to ensure public compliance with existing parking statutes/ordinances;
Maintains close communication with dispatch personnel using two-way radio or cell phone;
Writes citations and warnings for illegally parked vehicles and enters required information into the RMS;
Responds to and makes radio dispatch calls regarding parking violations and complaints;
Relays information about incidents or emergencies to personnel using two-way radios or cell phones;
Identifies vehicles in violation of parking codes, checks with dispatchers when necessary to confirm identities;
Locates suspicious vehicles and or activities and report to dispatch and communicates situation details to appropriate personnel;
Performs simple vehicle maintenance procedures such as checking oil and gas and report mechanical problems to the Fleet Coordinator;
Observes and reports hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals or signs, and street markings that need to be repainted and monitors environmental conditions to detect hazards;
Enters and retrieves information on an electronic database pertaining to vehicle registration, identification, and status;
Prepares and maintains required records, including daily logs, logs of parking enforcement activities;
Maintains assigned equipment and supplies such as citation books, rain gear, and street cones;
Provides information to the public regarding parking regulations and facilities, the location of streets, buildings, points of interest, etc.;
Appears in court and testifies as required at hearings regarding contested traffic citations;
Locates suspicious objects or vehicles and reports to dispatch;
Performs traffic control duties such as setting up barricades and temporary signs, directs traffic, blocks physical access to restricted areas;
Requests assistance for motorists needing help with problems, such as flat tires, keys locked in vehicles, or dead batteries;
Assists motorists or pedestrians; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
