JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Job Profile Summary
The Mechanical Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of the Company's vessel mechanical systems. This mechanical equipment includes but is not limited to diesel engines, marine gears, tunnel and azimuthing thrusters, conventional prop shafts, CP prop shafts, steering systems, anchor windlass, winch, davits, pumps, shaft seals, and any other mechanical system needing tech assistance in the fleet.
JOB DESCRIPTION
SCOPE OF DUTIES
The duties of the Mechanical Technician shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Works with Lead Mechanical Technician to safely repair and maintain vessel mechanical equipment at peak performance for maximum availability and efficiency.
- Works with Operations Management and vessel crews to schedule troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment.
- Works with 3rd party vendors on contract work to verify repair is complete and to company's satisfaction if required.
- Must be able to manage time and coordinate all aspects of the job that is assigned by the Lead Mechanical Technician. This includes procuring parts, appropriate tools, equipment, and supplies required for troubleshooting and repairing the vessel mechanical equipment.
- Instructs vessel crews on basic troubleshooting and repair procedures needed to identify and repair problems if needed.
- Identifies parts that need to be replaced, opens work orders, issues purchase orders, and places orders for parts or repair services as necessary.
- Interprets technical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, and other technical documents to determine appropriate repair parts and procedures. Operates and inspects completed work to determine repair success.
- Executes all tasks with all prescribed safety equipment in place and on person using applicable USCG and OSHA rules.
- Creates and understands Job Safety Analysis (JSA) actions for each job performed internally as well as by vendors or vessel crew.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Five (5) years mechanical repair related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CAT diesel engine repair experience and underwater gear experience a must.
