Applies project management skills across all phases: development, justification, design, construction, and startup
Manages multiple projects safely, efficiently, and within budget while meeting schedule commitments
Develops project scope, cost estimates, and schedules; prepares Decision Support Packages (DSPs) and presents to leadership
Provides electrical and instrumentation engineering support to refinery area teams, including troubleshooting and system improvements
Works directly with Operations, Maintenance, and Construction to execute projects and resolve real-time issues
Ensures compliance with Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Information (PSI), and refinery standards
Coordinates with external engineering consultants and vendors to execute projects effectively
Participates in HAZOP reviews, incident investigations, and reliability initiatives
Applies engineering codes and standards (NFPA, IEEE, NEC, API, etc.) to ensure safe and compliant designs
Promotes a strong safety culture and takes action when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Specifies and procures electrical and instrumentation equipment for assigned projects
Provides E&I technical support on multi-discipline capital and expense projects
Supports refinery area teams with troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem-solving
Assists during refinery turnarounds, including planning and execution support
Participates in commissioning, startup, and post-installation performance verification
Opportunity to support and lead larger, more complex capital projects as experience grows
Travel approximately 10%
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum (Required) Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Two (2) years or more of industry experience
Valid driver's license
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without sponsorship

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Five (5) years or more of refining, petrochemical, or heavy industrial Electrical Engineering experience
Experience with industrial electrical power systems, including distribution systems, protective relaying, and motor control equipment
Experience with process instrumentation, including pressure, flow, and level measurement, control valves, and integration with DCS/PLC systems
Familiarity with electrical and instrumentation codes and standards (NFPA, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, API, ISA)
Experience with power system modeling software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)
Experience with protective relaying and control systems
Demonstrated interest in professional growth, with the ability to develop into advanced technical roles or future leadership positions

POSITION SUMMARY
Marathon Petroleum Company's Catlettsburg Refinery is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Project Engineering (E&I) Team. This role reports to the Refining Engineering Manager (E&I) and provides both project management and hands-on electrical engineering support to refinery process units.
The Project Engineer (E&I) role offers a unique opportunity to work across power systems, controls, instrumentation, and motor systems in a highly integrated refinery. Project engineers are directly connected to the business, supporting operations while leading projects that improve safety, reliability, and unit performance.
This position provides full project ownership from concept through startup, along with meaningful field exposure and direct collaboration with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams.
