Job Summary Applies scientific knowledge, technical expertise and theory to practical clinical problems and is often required to exercise clinical judgment. Provides therapeutic, diagnostic, consultative and supportive services for neonatal through adult patients and their families. Actively participates in resuscitative and emergent situations. Provides patient care in a mobile environment to high risk patients and their families being transported to/from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley via ground transportation Responsible for providing quality assessment, therapeutic interventions, and clinical expertise to the neonatal and infant population under two months of age in the transport environment. May transport older pediatric patients if required. Essential Functions - Respiratory Care Process: Initiates, performs and maintains Respiratory Care Competencies in accordance with all quality and safety standards. Understands expected outcomes and with that knowledge, determines techniques for ensuring optimal patient care. Demonstrates prioritization, critical-thinking and decision-making skills. Performs tasks as necessary including, but not limited to, orientation, student and staff precepting, external transport and relief charge. Accurately bills for respiratory care modalities. Identifies and responds to emergent/urgent situations. Performs waived and non-waived moderately complex testing in accordance with established laboratory, hospital and regulatory policies and procedures. - Education/Discharge Planning: Participates in the discharge process in a collaborative manner with patients, families and the health care team. Provides and documents education to patients/families to promote wellness, and enhance adaptation to illness, injury, health conditions and/or special health care needs. Participates as an active member of the case management process. Assists in the development and validation of patient care standards for the transport patient population. Assists with developing educational material for CHW-FV staff, referring staff, parents, patients, and pre-hospital personnel. - Communication/Consultation/Collaboration: Acts as a team member and collaborates with the health care team to assure a team approach which provides efficient patient care practices. Communicates and collaborates effectively in a timely manner. Maintains good working relationships with the health care team in solving problems/issues in delivery of services. Provides constructive feedback to peers, resolves conflicts and issues in a timely manner and refers issues to appropriate management as necessary. Keeps supervisor/charge therapist apprised of shift activities and work flow issues. Seeks counsel and or assistance from the RCS Leadership Team and Medical Director when appropriate. - Professional Development: Responsible for maintaining departmental responsibilities by attending educational offerings, in-services, and department and hospital meetings. Identifies annual goals for own professional growth and the means by which to achieve them in collaboration with supervisor. Aware of and works toward the accomplishment of department and hospital goals. Represents department on inter-disciplinary committees/work groups as applicable. Keeps current regarding Respiratory Care trends and developments. Membership in professional associations is encouraged. Maintains department responsibilities in Transport by attending educational offerings, staff meetings, departmental and hospital interdisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and recurrence training. - Quality Improvement: Participates in new product/procedure evaluation and provides timely feedback which contributes to the decision making process.
