Job Summary:
Repairs and overhauls a variety of heavy vehicle and medium and heavy construction equipment such as, but not limited to, refuse trucks, ladder trucks, dump trucks, truck tractors, cranes, bulldozers, rollers, graders, loaders, backhoes, scrappers, hydraulic cranes, and extractors as a substantially full-time assignment; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties:

Diagnoses motor knocks, noises, and other mechanical failures, disassembles diesel or gasoline engines;
Inspects, removes, repairs, and replaces such parts as injection valves, cylinder heads, cylinder sleeves, pistons, rings, connecting rods, bearings, gaskets, etc.;
Repairs and overhauls major units such as brake systems, transmissions, etc.;
Inspects, repairs and overhauls complex hydraulic and electrical systems;
Repairs various specialized mechanical parts or equipment such as crawlers tracks and drivers, winches, bulldozer blades, scoops, excavating and loading bucket chains, power take-off and control mechanisms, centrifugal pumps, ladder and articulating booms, conveyor belts, etc.;
Road tests equipment repaired;
Performs minor welding in connection with repair work; and
Performs other related duties as required.
