Assists with construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents. Coordinates and schedules quality controls inspections.
Observes on-site material testing and coordinates testing and monitoring services. Performs mathematical calculations for material quantity payments. Performs basic shop drawing review and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
Reviews contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness and consistency. Regularly reviews contractor's as-built mark-ups, documents project progress using video and photo and prepares reports on construction progress.
Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
Performs office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares meeting agendas and meeting minutes, assists in processing and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates and other deliverables.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Works closely with the contractor crews to verify work is done in accordance with plans and specifications.
Identifies discrepancies or conflicts within documents that could impact production in the field and works to resolve these issues.
Writes daily inspection report, tracks work performed, and computes pay item quantities in accordance with contract documents.
Understands the shop drawing process and gains the ability to read and interpret the contractor's CPM schedule.
What We Prefer:
Engineer in Training (EIT)
Trained in digital construction management software such as P6 and AASHTOWare.
CADD experience in any program.
