Location BCOM Bronson Commons Title Unit Clerk - BCOM Under the supervision of the Unit Leadership, the Unit Clerk/Receptionist performs clerical and receptionist functions for the unit. Duties include preparing and compiling records on the nursing unit, coordinating unit communication systems (e.g. phones, nurse call system, facility information systems); relaying information; maintaining optimal public relations; assisting in maintaining supplies, equipment and overall unit environment and other duties as assigned by the Unit Leadership. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required Current CNA license in the state of Michigan in good standing required. - Working knowledge of medical terminology - Ability to successfully complete the organizations' competency requirements for English, writing, spelling and reading comprehension - Basic computer skills and ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute - Ability to input and retrieve data from the organization's computerized systems - Organizational skills to maintain records and orderly filing systems and to manage multiple processes simultaneously - Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects. - Coordinates the flow of information throughout the unit/department for all staff. - Prepare necessary documents for patient's paper and electronic chart prior to new admission - Transcribe orders, compile, copy, complete (and fax) necessary paperwork for licensed nurse review and approval. - Assist as necessary in preparing a list of residents for vision, dental, podiatry and audiology visits. Prepare charts of patients to be seen in an orderly fashion for physician and consultant visits. - Post diagnostic results after they have been checked by the licensed nurse and remove control copy and scan to chart - Scan verbal order to chart - Note diet changes, forwarding a communication slip with the needed information to the Dietary Department. - Note patient appointments in calendars. Remind license nurses of scheduled events and appointments. Update calendar as necessary. - Maintain active medical records, charts on a routine and timely basis and files in designated place. File reports in active medical record and scan to chart. - Assist as needed in emergency situations, helping with any and all paperwork, phone call, etc. - Schedule ordered tests, appointments, transportation, etc. and complete necessary paperwork before transport. - Keep the desk at assigned court neat and orderly. - Monitor and maintain visitor sign-in sheets at each desk. - Communicate all pertinent patient care information and general environment information to the Charge Nurses. - Answer telephone and nurse call system and provide information or relay messages to patients, visitors and medical staff. - Direct visitors to patients' rooms or visitor waiting areas. - Distribute mail, newspapers, and flowers to patients. - Coordinates with the charge nurse to insure smooth, efficient and timely patient flow into, through and outside of the department. - Responsible for performing clerical duties and processing equipment and staff requests relative to department needs. - Monitor and requisition supplies designated by nursing staff, organize and store such in accordance with unit/department procedures. - Gather/input/retrieve information into various computerized systems. - Transport patients and guests to locations within facility, under direction or as needed. - Maintains unsupervised access to the unit medication room(s) for stocking and/or retrieving supplies.
