Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or other technical field
Three years of experience in project management, engineering, construction or maintenance activities in a heavy industrial environment
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Steel mill experience preferred.
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Experience dealing with trade unions and their local bargaining agreements
Ability to interpret commercial terms and the fundamentals of construction contracts
Ability to read a blueprint

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $95,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Technical Category Buyer at our office in Cleveland, Ohio. The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer or project management professional looking to build off their past experience and expand their skills. They will assist in arranging a wide variety of multi-million-dollar projects and bringing them to successful completion.
The Technical Category Buyer will utilize their knowledge of engineering, construction and/or project management experience to assemble sound contracts for meaningful capital and environmental projects. They will also serve as a liaison between personnel in Project Engineering, Environmental, Plant, Legal, and suppliers to expedite the procurement process and solve any problems that arise.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Review all scope documents to assure the stated requirements are clear, performance requirements are identified and that the document is compliant with commercial and contractual requirements
Negotiate supplier agreements for equipment supply, engineering services, construction services, and material supply and work with Legal to develop acceptable modifications to Cleveland-Cliffs Steel's standard terms and conditions
Analyze bid documents and requisitions to assure commercial requirements are being met
Evaluate project risk and how best to mitigate using mechanisms such as insurance, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, and milestone payments
Prepare and issue Requests for Quotations and Purchase Orders and prepare contract documents for issuance against master agreements
Work with Project Engineers, Environmental, Risk Management and/or Legal as necessary to resolve contractual issues between vendor and Cleveland-Cliffs
Evaluate union personnel craft rates to ensure a fair price
