About the role

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, dynamic Grade 3 or 4 Physiotherapist to lead and innovate our Mental Health Physiotherapy services at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. Reporting to the Physiotherapy Manager this position will drive the provision of high quality Physiotherapy services to SVHM Mental Health patients through direct supervision and education of junior staff members. The successful candidate will possess expert clinical knowledge and robust peer networks, as well as strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, sound communication skills and a passionate commitment to the development of self and others. The Grade 3 or 4 physiotherapist will be responsible for leading, coordinating and promoting the provision of clinical education to support the needs of Physiotherapy Department staff, in providing service to the SVHM Mental Health services. As well as working collaboratively with Allied Health and Mental Health educators to implement a coordinated and cohesive clinical education strategy across SVHM. The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background, knowledge of Mental Health services, and experience and passion for education and staff development. Proven leadership, excellent communication skills and fostering of relationships with the multidisciplinary team are essential. Classifications for this position will range from Physiotherapist Grade 3 VB7 - VC1 ($104,135 - $118,981) or Grade 4 VB24 - VB27 ( $118,480 - $128,341) pro rata for part time). Duties include Develop and implement SVHM Physiotherapy and Allied Health education and research strategies and support junior staff related to mental health, to ensure a focus on educational research and evidence-based practice. Demonstrate strategies and support junior staff in the management of the most prevalent physical health comorbidities including back pain, arthritis, and cardiovascular conditions. Provide direct clinical supervision to Physiotherapy staff working within St Vincent's mental health services and foster growth, knowledge, expertise and interest in mental health work. Increase understanding and commitment to the Equally Well consensus statement and Equally Well in Victoria To embed trauma-informed principles in physiotherapy in mental health settings To embed integrated physical and mental health care in specialist mental health services across both inpatient and community settings Undertake problem solving to identify specific needs in staff and student clinical education and develop short term and long-term strategies. Promote and maintain the values and principles that underpin best practice in relation to clinical education. Develop and sustain opportunities for interdisciplinary learning across SVHM Actively promote a culture of research and innovation in mental and physical health Establish systems for monitoring the educational needs of individuals and staff groups. Monitor these data systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years clinical experience
  • Completion of relevant Post Graduate qualification (or PhD candidates nearing completion)
  • Knowledge of Physiotherapy management and clinical service provision in an acute health care setting
  • Acknowledged by their professional peers as a clinical expert and has broad and relevant clinical experience in their area of expertise
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, management and networking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across teams and the wider organisation
  • Extensive experience in the supervision and professional development of physiotherapists, students and support staff.
