The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers, or small businesses, and their financial service providers.
The Public Affairs Team sits within the Communications directorate and leads the organisation's engagement with key regulatory, government and parliamentary stakeholders. The team focuses on strengthening external relationships, raising awareness of our service, and sharing insight to influence improvements across the financial services sector. This is a fast-paced area, working at the centre of policy, reputation and stakeholder engagement.
This year, the team is supporting several strategic priorities. Using data and insight, the team continues to monitor developments across the regulatory landscape, ensuring the organisation is well positioned to respond to emerging issues and influence the wider environment effectively.
Responsibilities
To be considered for this role, you'll need to show us that you've got the skills and capabilities. You'll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
Minimum Criteria:
Proven experience engaging with external stakeholders in a regulatory, government or policy environment (evidenced through roles, projects or campaigns).
A clear understanding of the UK regulatory or policy landscape, ideally within financial services.
Experience using data, research or evidence to inform recommendations, briefings or decision-making.
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work in a fast-paced environment with changing demands.

Ability to demonstrate strong influencing skills and sound judgement when handling stakeholder issues or sensitive enquiries.
Experience translating complex information into accessible briefings or engagement materials for different audiences.
Ability to show effective collaboration with internal teams and subject matter experts to achieve shared outcomes.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to build credibility and relationships with senior stakeholders.
Evidence of being proactive, adaptable and outcome-focused, with a keen interest in financial services and the wider regulatory environment.

Contract: permanent
