Industrial Mechanic (Distribution) (Dallas Water Utilities - Civil Service) Class A CDL Required

About the role

The Industrial Mechanic provides senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various industrial equipment, vehicles, or heavy automotive equipment. Essential Functions 1 Diagnoses, identifies, and determines equipment failures; identifies cause and ensures appropriate and professional repairs are completed by the mechanics. 2 Inspects and tests completed work to ensure repairs were performed according to standards; provides direction and leadership for industrial equipment serving aviation, utilities, and other departments. 3 Researches and orders parts needed for repairs, maintains records of purchases and installations according to established procedures, and keeps inventory of items needed for industrial equipment and vehicles. 4 Demonstrates proper work methods and safety procedures to other mechanics and helpers to ensure that work is performed in a proper and safe manner and to assist with complex repairs. 5 Inspects and executes repair, replacement, fabrication, modification, and installation of various types of plant equipment, including pumps, valves, chemical handling equipment, and all other related equipment in a timely manner to allow continuous operation of plant facilities when equipment malfunctions occur. 6 Performs major and minor repairs on a variety of machinery and mechanical equipment, including air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment, in compliance with operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications to ensure equipment operates properly. 7 Changes belts, oil, filters, greases bearings, clean, lubricates or replaces parts on various mechanical and electrical equipment; troubleshoots mechanical and electrical equipment and provides expertise on industrial, aviation, and heavy equipment. 8 Serves as lead worker over lower level mechanics. 9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills 1 Thorough knowledge of the mechanical systems assigned. 2 Thorough knowledge of the principals of maintenance and repair. 3 Skill in the use of appropriate hand tools and repair techniques. 4 Ability to read and interpret instructions and diagrams contained in the manufacturer's manuals. 5 Ability to analyze and diagnose problems 6 Ability to operate computer diagnostic equipment. 7 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. 8 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
