Additional Information
Build the embedded intelligence behind large- scale commercial heating systems - powering the energy transition at scale .
Your role
As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Remeha / BDR Thermea Group, you play a key role in developing the software that drives complex commercial HVAC and heating installations across Europe. From hospitals and factories to large residential complexes and public buildings, your work ensures that our systems operate reliably, efficiently, and intelligently in demanding, real-world environments.
You contribute across the full development lifecycle - from early design discussions and architectural considerations to implementation , testing , and delivery. Working on system-level challenges , you help ensure interoperability between boilers, heat pumps, building management systems (BMS), and third -party integrations .
This is a role with broad scope: you combine hands-on embedded development with a system mindset , balancing performance, constraints , and long product lifecycles . You also help bring modern engineering practices into an environment that is evolving towards more advanced platforms and tooling.
This is a hybrid role, based out of Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. You are invited to work on-site at the office for a minimum of two day s per week. We support your home office set-up, travel costs, and provide flexibility regarding hybrid work.
Your team
You will join the Commercial Systems cluster within the Digital & Controls ( DaC ) team. This is an international, multidisciplinary environment where software engineers, architects, product owners, and testers collaborate on large-scale, high-impact systems.
The team works in an Agile setup with multiple scrum teams and clusters and is moving towards feature-based development for complex installations rather than single products.
Together , you build the " brain " behind commercial heating systems - including controllers and gateways that integrate with third -party technologies - helping accelerate the transition to more sustainable energy solutions .
Your key tasks
Develop r eliable embedded software for commercial HVAC and heating systems
Contribute to system design and architectural discussions with software and hardware architects
Work across the full development lifecycle , from concept to validation and release
Apply Continuous Integration practices , ensuring high- quality testing and documentation
Write unit tests and c ollaborate with testers on component-level testing ( including automated testing frameworks )
Work with Linux- based environments and embedded platforms
Support and improve development workflows , including configuration management and CI practices
Contribute to system interoperability , integrating with building management systems and third -party devices
Collaborate with international stakeholders and support technical alignment across teams
What you bring
Several years of experience in ( embedded ) software development, ideally in complex or system-level environments
S olid programming skills in C / Embedded C , with openness to or experience in C++
Understanding of embedded systems fundamentals ( e.g. memory, performance, hardware interaction )
Experience working in a Linux- based and /or embedded development environment
Familiarity with structured development approaches and modern engineering practices ( e.g. testing , version control, CI ) and associated tools ( Robot framework, GIT, Azure DevOps)
A proactive , collaborative mindset and ability to work seamlessly in international , cross- functional teams
Preferably , you also bring:
Experience in contributing to software architecture discussions
Knowledge of modern C++ and object- oriented design principles
Experience with Python and /or automated testing frameworks such as Robot
Experience with real-time operating systems ( e.g. Zephyr )
