Functions as a surgical scrub technician in the operating room/procedure room under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Assists with gowning and gloving other members of the surgical team. Assists with the preparation of the operating room for surgical procedures. Assists with skin preparations and with draping of patients. Handles specimens in accordance with facility policy and procedures. Participates in the final "Time Out" process in the OR or procedure room to verify the correct patient, the correct procedure, the correct site and if applicable, the correct side. Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area for storage or processing. Participates in sponge, instrument, and needle count with the circulation nurse. Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors. Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies. Helps to ensure that "specialty carts', equipment, supplies, etc., are cleaned monthly, checked for outdates as needed. Terminally clean OR at the end of the day. Transports and escorts patients to various areas and for discharge. Assists with the maintenance, selection and preparation of instruments, equipment and supplies necessary to maintain a state of readiness for operative cases. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the plan of care. Adjusts patient care based on the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients. Participates in educational and performance improvement activities. Maintain educational requirements to keep certification status for Certified Surgical Techs. Other duties as assigned
