About the role
Full-time, Continuing position $121,213 - $136,507 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, and hybrid ways of working About You As our Senior AI Adoption Specialist, you'll work directly with researchers across the university to understand their challenges and help apply practical AI solutions that genuinely make a difference. This is not about building new models from scratch. It is about choosing the right tools already on the market, such as GPT or Claude, shaping them into fit-for-purpose solutions, and turning ideas into working prototypes that researchers can actually use. You'll be hands-on, curious, and comfortable moving between conversations, code, and experimentation. You'll be the first person researchers turn to when they want to explore AI or need help moving from concept to implementation. From advising on the right approach, to building and refining prototypes, to supporting solutions once they are live, you'll play a key role in lifting AI capability across a growing and motivated research community. You'll work closely with a collaborative team and external partners, contributing your technical skills and valuing shared problem-solving and collective success. If you enjoy translating complex technology into clear, ethical, and practical outcomes and want to help shape how AI is used in research, we would love to hear from you. To be successful in this position, you'll have: Demonstrated strong hands-on experience with AI technologies such as natural language processing, machine learning, generative AI, and process automation, with the ability to critically evaluate and apply these to practical research challenges across diverse disciplines. Demonstrated experience delivering AI-enabled solutions from early-stage prototype through to deployment, including iterative development, testing, and integration within cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure). Well-developed understanding of cloud service models and strategies to optimise performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Proven ability to produce clear technical documentation, user guides, and best-practice resources that support adoption, scalability, and long-term sustainability of solutions. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with and advising students, staff and industry partners, combined with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration across diverse teams and organisations to support cultural change and drive AI adoption across the university. Desirable: Well-developed project planning and management skills, with the ability to deliver outcomes within fixed timeframes and under competing priorities. Experience contributing to technology-focused deliverables within small, agile project teams. Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
